Chris Keals article should be sobering reading for any Directors, risks are mounting. New Zealand is seen as an easy target by cybercriminals overseas due to our very trusting culture. Way more needs to be done by companies to ensure they are protected and backed up and also to train their staff on the risks. There are a huge number of risks that go way beyond what any software can protect against. Employees need to be educated and systems, checks and balances need to be put in place especially where there is a risk of financial loss of funds being sent to the wrong account.
I must also say that Googling the word “antivirus” when writing these comments, I think Google is doing us a huge disservice by spamming the results with traditional antivirus vendors. Half of them are less effective than Microsoft Windows Defender which is free on all Windows 10 PCs. The reality that traditional signature-based virus detection is dead is not highlighted in the results at all
